Plus-size model is a term applied to a person
who is engaged primarily in modeling plus-size
clothing. Plus-size models also engaged in work
that is not strictly related to:
selling large-sized clothing,
stock photography,
advertising photography
for cosmetics,
household,
pharmaceutical products
sunglasses,
footwear and watches.
Therefore plus-size models do not exclusively
wear garments marketed as plus-size clothing.
This is especially true when participating in
fashion editorials for mainstream fashion
magazines.

You're Never Too Overweight to Exercise
Do you think you're too overweight to exercise?
If so, you're not alone. There are many kindred
souls out there who worry about starting an
exercise program. What should you do and where
do you start? How can you keep exercise safe and
enjoyable all at the same time? If you've been
afraid to exercise or just uncertain for how to
begin, I have some good news for you: It doesn't
take much exercise to make a difference.
The Problem With Obesity
Obesity contributes to a
host of issues such as:
High blood pressure
Heart disease
Diabetes
On top of that, you might experience uncomfortable
joint pain caused by carrying excessive weight on
the body. The good news is that if you lose weight,
you can manage that pain and perhaps prevent many
of these conditions and illnesses. Even better news:
it doesn't have to hurt to do it.
Getting Started
Before you do anything, always see your doctor to
make sure you can safely exercise without hurting
yourself. If you're taking medication, find out
how to monitor yourself since some heart or blood
pressure medications can affect your heart rate.
Make sure you get details from the doc about
exactly what you can and can't do. If you've never
exercised, the last thing you want to do is hurt
yourself by doing too much too soon.

Even though you've got achy joints, you still
can exercise safely, says Kelly Bliss, a
fitness instructor in Philadelphia who specializes
in plus-size exercise. You just need to choose
activities that don't further aggravate the sore
spots.
No jumping," says Bliss.
Jumping can be hard on anyone's joints, but it's
especially taxing for people who carry around extra
weight.
So focus on gentler
activities such as:
walking,
swimming,
cycling,
low-impact aerobics,
advises Bliss, and be sure to get your doctor's
clearance before starting.
Some fitness facilities now offer classes geared
toward overweight exercisers that are designed
with simpler choreography and a slower tempo.
That's important because bigger bodies don't move
in the same ways as smaller ones, and jerky
movements could spell injury, she says.
Once you start moving and getting in shape, you
may be pleasantly surprised to find that some of
your aches and pains start to abate, says Bliss.
"The human body functions better when your muscles
are toned," she says.
As for those bouncing breasts,
get yourself a good, supportive
sports bra.

"Big Beautiful Woman" (commonly abbreviated
as BBW) is a term most frequently used in
the context of, affirmation of or sexual
attraction to overweight or obese women.
The terms "Big Beautiful Women" and "BBW"
were coined by Carole Shaw in 1979, when
she launched BBW Magazine, a fashion and
lifestyle magazine for plus-size women.
Although "BBW" may have been first used
in the context of BBW Magazine, the term's
usage spread over the years, to the point
that even women who had never heard of the
magazine began to refer to themselves as
"BBWs".
Some women may adopt the term as a personal
preference over the term Rubenesque, or
full-figured, because they may not
necessarily have large breasts or hips. Such
terms, and others such as "queen-sized",
"plus-sized", or "fat" may lead to feelings
of marginalization or non-inclusion for some
women. However, some strongly prefer the term
fat over other words which they consider
unnecessary euphemisms.
The abbreviation BBW can often found used in
personal ads (and online dating services)
denoting an identification with (or preference
for) such women, and is also used to denote
events specifically targeted to such women,
and persons interested in them, such as
specific gathering nights in dance clubs,
restaurants, and fashion stores and shows.
The term is also commonly used as a positive
euphemism by those involved with the fat
acceptance movement.
