CLINICAL
ECOLOGY

The study of effects of exposure to synthetic
chemicals, EMF, and radiation. Everyone
has different reactions to such exposure.
Some hazards may take years to show their
effects. Vital to all this is the level
and time of exposure to these elements.

BAUBIOLOGIE

It is concerned not only with how building
and their environment impact on our health,
but also with the more postive emphasis of
the holistic interaction between human life
and our living environment. The point of
view of how to build in a healthier way.
Fresh air, pure water, natural materials,
generous daylight, equitable temperatures,
and humidity for less cost and less of a
effect on the environment, EMF protection
and beneficial siting.

BRICOLAGE
BRICOLEURS

BRICOLAGE
A mixture of theory, research, and
practicality. The science of found
objects. It does not attempt to build
from scratch, but takes what exits and
works with it to transform it to what
is useful or needed.

ORGANIC
CLEANING
PRODUCTS

Most of the cleaning products have compounds
that have severe ecological side-effects.
Most of your everyday household and garden
products contain hazardous chemicals. Test
have been done on single chemicals, but
not the effects from a mixture of these
chemicals or on their long term effects

EFFECTS
OF CHEMICAL
PRODUCTS

THESE CAN CAUSE SUCH PROBLEMS AS:
1. Eye and respiratory irriation.
2. Headaches and chronic fatigue.
3. Dizziness and heart irregularities.
4. Imtaired judgment, perception and coordination.
5. Irritability and mood swings.
6. Nausea.
7. Unexplained joint and muscle pain.
8. Affect the central nervous system in such
a way that it can lead to liver, kidney and
brain damage.

FENG SHUI

Wind water
The ancient Chinese art and science
of placement, akin to geomany. It
aims to bring human beings into a
harmonious relationship with the
universe through appropriate siting,
landscaping, architecture, and with
interior design. Taoism on which it
is based, seeks harmony by following
"THE NATURAL WAY".

TAOISM
One of the many religions of China.
It teaches that natural simplicity and
humility are the way to peace and the
harmony in life.

SECTION 5

ANTHROPOSOPHIC
DESIGN

Anthroposopic architects and designers
believe that our surrounding affect us
physically and spiritually. They can
either desensitize us morally and
socially or positively support the
inner process of growth that are the
foundation of health.

When the approach is developed
organically in the building design
it envivens and delights all the
senses, sight, scent, sound, and
touch, Straight lines and right
angles are thought to constain and
cramp body and spirit, so they are
avoided or softened by other angles
and curvilinear shapes.

COLOR
RENDERING
INDEX

COLOR RENDERING INDEX (C.R.I.)

The effect of a light source on the color
appearance of an object is indicated by
the color rendering index(C.R.I.), these
range from 0 to 100, sunlight is rated
100 on the C.R.I. and any value above 90
is considered full spectrum lighting.
Most indoor lighting is bright, but has
a unbalanced spectral. This type of
lighting distorts colors, causes glare
and often leads to eye strain.

LUMEN
The measure of brightness in light.

COLOR RENDERING INDEX (C.R.I.)
1. SUNLIGHT = 100.
2. FULL SPECTRUM = ABOVE 90.
3. COOL WHITE FLUORESCENT = 62.
4. WARM WHITE FLUORESCENT = 56.

SEASONAL
AFFECTIVE
DISORDER
SAD
SYNDROME

SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER
SAD SYNDROME

Brought on by lack of sunlight during
winter. This is due to depriving one self
of nourishment that sunlighing gives you.
The full spectrum lighing contains the
same balance of color as your natural
sunlight, and can lift winter depression
and improve general health, but does not
promote production of vitamin D, which
aid calcium absorption.

SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is a type
of winter depression which affects millions
of people every winter between September and
April, in particular during December, January
and February. SAD is caused by a biochemical
imbalance in the hypothalamus due to the
shortening of daylight hours and the lack of
sunlight in winter. For many people SAD is
a seriously disabling illness, preventing
them from functioning normally without
continuous medical treatment.

For others, it is a milder condition, causing
discomfort, referred to as sub-syndromal SAD
or winter blues. There is also a rare reverse
form of SAD, known as summer SAD, where
symptoms occur each summer and remit in
winter.

SECTION 7

CHEMICAL
HYPERSENSITIVE

HYPERSENSITIVE
Extremely sensitive.

SENSITIVE
Receiving impressions readily.
Easily effected or influenced.
Easily hurt or offended.
Aware of the feeling and
needs of other people.

CHEMICAL HYPERSENSITIVE
Household poisons abound in many materials
and cleaning products, and these, in addition
to cooking gases and other smells can make
houses either dangerous and/or unpleasant
smelling. All these add to environmental
illness and hypersensitivity to many of
the toxic materials and chemical that are
found today in everyday use.

SECTION 7A

SICK
BUILDING

SICK BUILDING
CHEMICAL HYPERSENSITIVE

If you dramatically reduce the amount
of fresh air indoors due to lack of a
adequate ventilation system, this will
quickly lead to a build-up of humidity,
pollutants and toxins in the indoor air.

In a close system these cannot escape.
All these and other materials along
with chemicals add together, you can
have the environmental illness known
as chemical hypersensitive. Of all the
new chemicals substances created each
year, there is no agency that can keep
up with documenting the harmful effect
of all of them.

SECTION 8

VOLATILE
ORGANIC
COMPONDS
VOCS

some materials gives off harmful vapor
at room temperture. These will include
formaldehyde found in certain interiors
and building boards, furnishings, carpets,
clothings, and beddings. You can add to
this list synthetic stain-resistant and
other special finishes, paint solvents,
adhesives, wood preservatives, household
cleaners, polishes, air freshers, and
insecticides. Along with particles,
fibers, and dust from asbestos in older
buildings, micro-organisms such as
bacteria, viruses, molds, spores and
pollen in the air, and trace elements
from metals such as lead, aluminum,
copper, mercury and cadmium. Test have
been done on these componds, but not
when they are mixed, to identify the
potential hazards.

SECTION 9

RADON

Radom is an oderless, colorless, radioactive
gas produced when radium decays. It occurs
naturally in certain rocks, groundwater,
and soil containing uranium, granite,
shale, phosphate and pitchblend. You can
test your home using a simple inexpensive
radon test kit, that is available from the
hardware store and other retail outlets.

These can be sent for laboratory analysis.
Radon can accumulate and reach hazardous
levels. The most likely source is the soil
beneath the home. Radon seeps in via cracks
and gaps in the ground-level or basements
floors, as well as through pipes, drains,
walls and other openings.

GEOPATHIC ZONES

GEO = EARTH.
PATHIC = DISEASE.

the earth magnetic fields.

GEOMAGNETIC FIELDS

The earth natural terrestrial magnetic fields
to which all life has been attuned for eons.
The earth's natural beat is at a rate of 7.83
per second (7.83 HZ). Electromagnetic fields
of all kinds can cause added stress to your
normally tranquil life.
