THE THREE SISTERS
In Native American lore, maize (or corn as
it is commonly called in the U.S.) was one
of the three sisters. Along with beans and
squash, the three sisters were planted and
grown together, supporting each other in
their lifecycle and providing a very
balanced diet of carbohydrates, proteins
and vegetable fats to their cultivators.



VEGETABLES
Plant with fruit, seeds, leaves, roots
and/or other parts used for foods.


CORN
A kind of grain that grows on large ears.
A kind of cereal grass,Indian corn.


MAIZE
Corn, indian corn

POTATO
A round, hard starchy vegetable with
a thin skin, irish potato, white potato.
It is one of the most widely used of
the vegetables.


YAMS
The thick,starchy, orange root of
a vine of warm regions, these are
eaten as a vegetable, the sweet
poatato.


SWEET POTATO
The sweet, thick, yellow or orange
root of a creeping vines, grown in
warm regions.


LEGUME
Any of many plants that bear pods
containing a number of seeds. Beans
and peas are legumes. Unlike many
other plants, legumes absort the
nitrogen from the air and so they
can fertilize the soil they grow in.


SQUASH
The fruit of several trailing
garden vines related to the pumpkin
and cucumber. Squash have different
shapes and colors, they are usally
yellow, green, or white.


PUMPKIN
The large, round, yellowish
fruit of several trailing vines
used for making pies and/or some
times as a vegetable.


CUCUMBER
The fruit of a garden vine
related to the squash. It is
a long, green vegetable with
firm flesh, used in salads
and for pickles.

the Great Lakes region. They
built immense and tall mounds
of pyramid shaped earth.
